This is our optimum trip if you’re in North Iceland and want to go directly from Akureyri to our great Grímsey island. The most amazing journey would be a flight with Circle Air, with such amazing unbelievable scenery and pilots who know the fjord like the palm...

Halla was my guide and it so happened that I was the only one on tour that day so I received a personal tour. It is not a cheap... read more tour so I was very lucky to have all my questions answered and to be able to mingle with the local people. It is a very small place and everything is within walking distance especially when you have until 5:00 PM to hop on the return ferry. She showed me the fish packing areas, drove me to their church, talked about the population of 35 on the island and if can continually be maintained as the population gets lower. Of course we did see the area where you are actually on the Arctic (there is actually 2 places). What I enjoyed the most was just observing the puffins and the Arctic terns. They do have a small gift shop and grocery store. They do need ways to bring people in to populate the island. Property prices are very low so if you have the right business, it can be affordable.
